Declared a nature reserve in 1979, Taubergesen is one of the largest protected areas in Baden-Württemberg with an area of about 1,682 hectares. It is located in the south of the Upper Rhine Plain between Freiburg and Offenburg. The name "Taubergesen" comes from a stream in the north of the region and means flowing water fed by groundwater; It is a very popular destination for hikers and cyclists who can explore nature. As an alternative to a hiking or mountain biking tour, boat tours or so-called boat trips are offered.
