The Berber village of Tamazret is located in the Tunisian state of Gabes and near old Matmata. It has origins dating back to the tenth century AD, and its fame stems from the fact that it contains many houses and caves dug in the rocks and mountains. Its residents celebrate the Berber New Year and hold a folk festival that aims to preserve their indigenous customs and traditions and the advancement of them.
