Taichung Station was originally built in 1905 in the architectural style of a wooden building, and began operating in 1908. In 1917, it was rebuilt as a red brick structure in the Renaissance architectural style. Today, the new Taichung train station behind the original station was officially opened on 16 October 2016. The current station is characterized by a simple and modern architecture and is equipped with escalators, elevators and other facilities, and contains bullet trains and a fully equipped waiting station.
