Information about Taichung Prefectural Hall
The Taichung Provincial Hall was built during the period of Japanese colonial rule, and began to be used like the halls of other neighboring prefectures. These halls became icons of the major official architecture of the period, and played important roles in the architectural history of Taiwan. Work began in the hall in 1912, and the first phase was completed in the following year, and it underwent a number of expansions, and ended up in its current scale in 1934. It also served as the administrative center of Taichung in the Japanese era, and after the ceding of Taiwan after World War II, the building continued to be the seat of government for Taichung City under the new authorities. Today, the hall is a historical tourist landmark that reflects the nobility and civilization of the country at the time.
