Information about Suwon Hwaseong Fortress
Suwon Hwaseong Fortress was built between 1794 and 1796, by order of King Jeonju of the Joseon Dynasty to house and honor the remains of his father, Prince Sado. Sado was executed by being locked alive in a rice box by his father, King Yeongjo after failing to obey the order by suicide. The fort and the closed palace was classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997, due to its breathtaking beauty, as it is built in the historical Korean style and is surrounded by magnificent Buddhist statues and temples. The fortress contains more than 45 historical buildings.
