The history of mining in Saint Johan goes back more than 4000 years, and in the Mine Museum, facts and evidence of this ancient history are presented, starting from the prehistoric beginnings with stone hammers and wooden wedges used to make fire, to the mining of ores with hammers and iron chisels in the Middle Ages and the use of iron chisels in the Middle Ages. Gun powder and dynamite in the nineteenth century, which makes the Sunbau mine one of the oldest mines in Salzburg.
