The Sultan Qaboos Mosque was inaugurated in the Wilayat of Nizwa in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate by order of Sultan Qaboos. It was designated as a regional mosque in 2009. The simplicity of the form and the selective use of decoration are characteristics that distinguish this new mosque from other mosques in other regions, and the four minarets give the building a unique design. The mosque occupies an area of 80,000 square metres, and is located next to the Nizwa Valley, giving it a distinctive view of the surrounding landscape, and the space available for outdoor prayer allows it to accommodate an additional 5,300 worshipers.
