Information about Strahov Monastery
After a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1138 AD, the Bishop of Olomouc (Jendish Zdek) took up the idea of establishing a regular canon monastery in Prague. The monastery was supported by Bishops of Prague and Sobslav I, and Duke of Bohemia Vladislav II. Then the monks began to build their monastery first of wood, as the Roman basilica was the center of all spiritual events in Strahov. The construction was gradually completed, and the stone buildings of the monastery continued to be built to replace the temporary wooden living quarters with permanent stone. In 1258 AD, the monastery was severely damaged by fire and was later renovated. It is one of the buildings with a distinctive architectural character, and it is a suitable destination for all history lovers around the world.
