Information about Steinertor
The Steinertor Gate is a symbol of Krems and is the only one of the four previous city gates that still stands today. The main tower, dating from the late 15th century, bears a number of reliefs on the outside, including those commemorating Frederick III and the city entrance emblem. The gate was restored in the late 15th century and designed in Baroque style, and is a must-visit during your wanderings in Krems an der Donau. Behind the Steiner Tor begins the Upper Landstrasse, the pedestrian zone of Krems, which, along with the Lower Landstrasse, has been the main hub of the old town of Krems since the Middle Ages and leads to the Vienna Bridge with a length of about 700 metres.
