The Steinerner Steig Bridge was built of stone in 1617, and for a long time was the only crossing that could withstand flooding, while high water was able to flow under the high arches, the wooden bridges below were repeatedly destroyed and had to be rebuilt and restored several times. Many times, the bridge has become today one of the most important archaeological attractions in the city.
