Information about St. Nicholas Fortress
Characteristic castle located in Šibenik, one of the oldest indigenous Croatian cities on the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea in central Dalmatia Croatia. It was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites as part of the works in defense of Venice between the fifteenth and seventeenth centuries. After the two-year reconstruction work, the landmark was opened to visitors in July 2019 to become one of the must-visit landmarks in the beautiful city of Šibenik. The fortress is one of the most valuable and best preserved examples of defensive architecture in the region, and is made of brick because this material was considered more resistant to artillery ammunition, while the foundations are made of stone.
