The new Monastery of St. John was built in the 16th century AD, and is one of 8 buildings belonging to the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the region, and was listed as a historical monument by the country’s Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs, due to its frescoes depicting scenes from the Old and New Testaments. And sacred relics, in addition to a distinctive bell tower and an impressive mosaic ceiling.
