Information about St. Michael's Church
St. Michael's Church was designed in the Baroque style and commissioned by William V, Duke of Bavaria, and completed in 1597. The construction required the demolition of 87 houses to make way for the church and an adjoining college. The church was built over two periods. initially from 1583 to 1588 when it was given a high barrel vaulted ceiling; Then when the tower collapsed in 1590, the original plans were dropped and a new design was made for a larger church. The second period of construction lasted until the church was completed in 1597. The characteristic facade of the church is four-tiered, with a pointed ceiling decorated with statues of Duke Wilhelm and other bronze statues of the Wittelsbach rulers of Bavaria.
