Information about St. Mary's Church
St. Mary's Church is a large Lutheran church built before 1298. It is distinguished by its Gothic architecture, and is considered the best example of the Gothic style prevalent in northern Germany. Between 1625 and 1647, the church was considered the tallest building in the world with a height of 151 meters. The church's bell tower collapsed in 1382, was rebuilt in 1478, was struck by lightning in 1647, burned, and rebuilt in the form of a 104-meter-high baroque dome that is still preserved today.
