St. Mary's Church is one of the oldest churches in India, and the mother church of all the Syriac Catholic churches in the Kerala region. It is believed that the church was founded in the year 427 AD, and throughout history it was rebuilt several times. The church is also distinguished by the fact that the cross on its tower is one of the oldest crosses that have survived throughout history, dating back to the year 1151.
