One of the oldest Romanesque buildings in Salzburg, St. Erhard's Church was initially built as a hospital chapel, and in 1689 a new building was erected according to the plans of the young architect Giovanni Gaspare Zugalli on the site of the earlier church. St. Erhard's Church became a parish church in 1853 and, due to the consistency of its Italianate Baroque style, is today considered one of the most famous sacred buildings in Salzburg.
