The history of the Augustinian Church dates back to 1855 when James Hardiman laid the foundation stone. The church opened its doors in September 1859 and the Augustinian Order has been in Galway for over 500 years. The high altar with reliefs from the life of Saint Augustine was erected in 1934; Tourists and residents visit this ancient church to contemplate its architecture and learn about its history.
