The Singapore Art Museum is considered as the first museum specializing in contemporary visual arts in the city, and it houses art collections belonging to local and Asian artists that can be considered among the most important art collections in the region. The museum is located on the site of a former Catholic school, as the building dates back to 1955 AD, and the museum has been organizing the famous Singapore Biennale of Contemporary Art exhibition since 2011.
