The Sidi Youssef Dey Mosque is known as the “Bashmakia”, and it is one of the religious monuments that dates back to the beginning of the seventeenth century AD. It is of great importance as it is the first Ottoman Turkish Hanafi mosque to be built in Tunisia. It is also characterized by its minaret built on a square topped by an octagonal tower and its paneled minbar. The marble and its beautiful Islamic decoration, also includes the tomb of Joseph Dey.
