Information about Shoes on the Danube Bank
Sixty pairs of iron shoes stand on the banks of the Danube in front of the Hungarian Parliament, a memorial in Budapest founded by Gyula Pauer in memory of Jews murdered by the Nazis during World War II. One night, the German forces learned that some Jews were hiding in the Swedish embassy building, where the Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg was helping them escape from the fate of the Holocaust, so the forces stormed him in the middle of the night and took all the Jews in it to the river bank, and these Jews were ordered to line up He took off their shoes on the banks of the river, and then they were shot, and their bodies fell into the river and were left swimming with the current. The artwork was announced on April 16, 2005, and is made up of 60 pairs of "iron" shoes to symbolize the number of those killed that night.
