After the victory in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871 and the proclamation of the German Empire on January 18, 1871, Duke Friedrich Franz II commissioned Herman Willebrand to make a model of the Victory Column in 1872 as a national monument to the united wars of Germany, and the sculptor Megapolis (Megapolis) made the statue and it was erected in the heart of Schwerin's old park. Frederick Franz II placed the first stone in the statue and gave a speech on the occasion.
