The Church of São Sebastião was built between 1531 and 1547 on the site of a former small hermitage dedicated to São Sebastião. Its exterior includes stunning Baroque and Manuelan doorways. The interior has been enriched by carved work in local cedar and other rare woods such as ebony. Key elements include 17th- and 18th-century statues, 17th-century azulejo tile panels, wooden jacaranda furniture in the cabinet, and a rich collection of 16th-century embroidered vestments.
