Fort São Marcelo, also known as the fortress of the sea, is located in Salvador in Bahia, Brazil, standing on a small bank of coral reef 300 meters (980 ft) from the coast. The only cylindrical fortification in Brazil, which was built to protect the coastal city of Salvador from threats.
