The complex of Santa Maria della Scala, located in the town square and in front of the cathedral, was formerly a medieval and thirteenth century hospital, one of the oldest European buildings of this type, with a facade of black and white marble lines, and a collection of works from Etruscan and Roman Art from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance.
