Information about Santa Catherine's Castle
After the Anglo-Dutch sack of Cadiz in 1596 AD, King Philip II sent the engineer Cristóbal de Rojas to Cadiz to implement a defense project to protect the city, and this project was the Santa Catalina Castle, which today represents an important example of military architecture from Modern times, it has survived to this day without major changes. The castle has a star-shaped plan with two well-defined fronts: one made up of triangular bastions resting on the shore and the other open towards the town.
