Founded in the 18th century by Frederick II, this historic building is specially designed to house a collection of exceptional European artwork and photographs, and is also Germany's oldest gallery building. Nearly 180 of the best works of Flemish and Dutch Baroque as well as Italian Renaissance and Baroque painting are presented here along with exquisite antique sculptures and French statues from the 18th century. The building is distinguished by its stunning design with gold ornaments and precious yellow and white marble floors, along with floors inlaid with colored stone, antique and Baroque paintings and carvings. Even today you can see more than 140 high-ranking paintings from the 16th to the 18th centuries.
