It is an archaeological protected area dating back to about the middle of the fifth century when St. Vigilio introduced Christianity in the Lake Iseo region, which led to the abolition of the worship of the pagan goddess Isis and the spread of faith in Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary, as St. Vigilio built a small church on the top of a hill on the island He dedicated it to the Virgin Mary as a symbol of cleansing from pagan superstitions and giving new light to Christianity. This small church was the first parish church on the island and was called "Santa Maria de Corres" and dates back to 1410, and the church is surrounded by a group of sculptures and archaeological buildings that have been included within the reserve.
