Information about Saint Nicholas Cathedral
The neo-Byzantine Basilica of Saint Nicholas, with a stunning white stone facade, is famous as the burial place of the Princes of Monaco and the tombs of former kings Prince Rainier and Princess Grace, although the cathedral is relatively modern (built between 1875 and 1884). The sanctuary does, however, include an altar by French painter Louis Bréa dating from 1500, and another noteworthy artwork is the episcopal throne carved from Carrara marble.
