The holy lake or the holy Karnak temple lake is a natural lake, the largest of its kind in the region, lined with a stone wall and with stairs that descend into the water. The lake was used by priests for baptisms and for some of their religious rites, and was also home to the sacred geese of Amun (the goose is another symbol of Amun) and was a symbol of the primeval waters from which life arose. Today, the lake is one of the most important tourist attractions in Luxor.
