The Russian Memorial Church is 100 years old and is a cultural and historical monument at the same time. In 1745 Orthodox Christians from Russia and Greece formed a small religious community in Leipzig, hence the construction of this church, which commemorates the approximately 127,000 Russians who fought against Napoleon in the 1813 Battle of the Nations to liberate Germany, and the 22,000 Russians who died in that battle.
