Murat Toptani Street is a famous stone-paved pedestrian street in the center of Tirana, located between the Parliament House and the National Art Gallery. Its name comes from the Toptani family that controlled Ottoman Albania from the eighteenth century until World War II. The street is particularly attractive in summer when it offers double rows of flying trees, and along the way you can admire some of the city's old fortifications, dating back to the time when the Tobani family vied with other powerful local families for control of Tirana.
