Information about Roman Theatre of Arles
The Roman Theater, is an amazing archaeological site. The Roman theater was built in the 1st century BC during the reign of Augustus. The theater can accommodate a crowd of 8000 people in 33 rows of seats. The back of the theater was decorated with columns and statues. However, the most valuable archaeological find is the "Venus of Arles" which is a representation of the goddess Diana, which is now in the Louvre Museum in Paris. During the early Middle Ages, the theater was used as a quarry, and the city wall was built with the materials it provided. Today, the theater offers a great venue for outdoor performances and events during the summer. It is a wonderful archaeological place that reflects the importance of the historical city.
