Quinta Vigia was originally known as "Quinta das Angostias", due to the chapel attached to the main building, which was called "Nossa Senhora das Angostias (Our Lady of Suffering)", and a number of European nobles lived in this house throughout history, and in 1979 Quinta Vigia was acquired by the regional government and its buildings and parks were reconfigured, and on May 2, 1984, it became the official residence of the head of the regional government. Today, this property offers beautiful views of the Gulf of Funchal, and its gardens open to the public harmoniously combine large trees, exotic birds, colorful flowers and many types of plants that will interest botanists.
