Information about Quan Thanh Temple
Can Thanh Temple is a Taoist temple, built during the Li Dynasty (1010-1225) in Hanoi in honor of Tran Vo, the "god of the north" who was loved by all local Taoists, and to protect Hanoi from spirits and bad influences. Four sacred temples were built in the four winds directions of the city. The Temple of Can Thanh is the protector of the north, and includes a four-meter-tall bronze statue of Tran Pho carrying a snake and a turtle. The snake symbolizes wealth and the tortoise for protection in the symbolism of the Vietnamese animal.
