The Portuguese Center for Photography is a dedicated museum located in the former Rilação prison building. It was established in 1997 by the Ministry of Culture and is currently under the supervision of the Directorate General for Books, Archives and Libraries, and aims to promote and appreciate the photographic heritage, particularly through the archival processing of specimens and the management of National Photographic Group. The museum also offers an annual program of temporary exhibitions, a permanent center housing a rare and valuable collection of photographic cameras, and a specialized library providing research and specimen reproduction services.
