Saint-Tropez became well fortified as a result of being a coastal city that needed to protect itself from attack, and therefore many towers were built, including the Portalit Tower, which directly overlooks the sea and is located on both sides of a small bay called La Gale. This tower watches the entrance to the town from the Mediterranean; It is worth noting that it dates back to the 15th century and is located in the historic fishermen's quarter of La Ponche.
