The current building of Boyd Chapel is believed to have been built on the ruins of a chapel built in the 13th century. The eastern part of Saarema - after its conquest in 1227 - belonged to the Livonian regime, which built a castle in Boyd as its headquarters during the second half of the thirteenth century, and then this castle was destroyed by the people of Saarema during the wave of uprisings against the occupying forces that occurred in Estonia ; There was a chapel on the south side of the castle, and the walls of this chapel are nowadays the central part of Boyd's Church.
