The Plague Column is one of the most prominent archaeological tourist attractions in Maribor. It is a monument located in the main square of the city, northeastern Slovenia. This column was erected by a group of the upper class in Germany in gratitude for the end of the plague in 1680 AD, which killed about a third of the citizens. The monument was built in 1681 AD, which was the first work done by the German sculptor Josef Straub, and it was considered his largest work at the time, and one of the best examples of Baroque art in Slovenia.
