Information about Plague Column
The impressive Plague Column with a statue of the Virgin Mary on top is the most beautiful Baroque monument in Kosice. It is located in the northern part of the main square. It is 14 meters high. It was built in the 1820s to show the gratitude of the Slovak people for the end of the plague epidemic. The column is surrounded by carved statues of saints and angels, and legend says that the remains of Saint Valentine are hidden under one of these statues.
