Place du Guillaume II is the main square of Luxembourg City, and is located in the heart of the historic Haute-City district, the western half of which is dominated by the Luxembourg City Council, while the equestrian statue of former Grand Duke William II is the prominent feature of the eastern half. Much of the square is surrounded by trees, narrowing the open area (especially around the statue), and this square hosts many of the city's important cultural events, such as concerts, festivals, and Christmas markets.
