The Peles mountain pass forms the intersection between the Black Hill and Peles Rock. Heavy fighting took place during World War II nearby, and 16 Ukrainian soldiers lost their lives, and in memory of them a heroic memorial was erected in 1953, where a pilgrimage and memorial tour was held every year.
