The museum houses the largest collections of South African art, crafts and traditional artifacts. The collection is beautifully displayed in the Roberts House, which was built in 1898 and is now a restored Victorian National Monument. The building was for Esther Roberts, who was one of the pioneering female anthropologists. In South Africa, she has also authored many historical novels The museum displays various forms of indigenous music, performing arts, and oral history by hosting regular live events. Throughout South Africa, exhibits inside the museum include beads from different regions of KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Kai, as well as many fine examples of the Ndebele people.
