Founded in 1805, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) is the nation's oldest art museum and school, home to nearly 14,000 artworks, in chronological and thematic format, that explore the history of American art from the 1860s. The museum displays the work of American artists who were either students or former teachers of the Academy, and these include works by Peale, Thomas Eakins, and Mary Cassatt.
