Peace Memorial Park is located on a beautiful plateau overlooking the Mapuni Hills in Itoman City in the southern part of Okinawa Island. Its establishment as a local park began in 1965 during the Ryukyu government, and after the island came under the control of the Japanese government in 1972, it was redesigned again to become A memorial park for the Battle of Okinawa, and there is also a museum that displays pictures and relics of this battle, in addition to the "Peace Cornerstone" monument engraved with the names of all who died in it.
