The beautiful Meadow Lighthouse with its outbuildings on the east coast of Saaremaa was built in 1907. The designer of this landmark was the eminent military engineer Alexander Yaron who was at the time building the lighthouse; But during the First World War it became clear that the location chosen for the lighthouse was not enough, and as a result in 1916 its devices were dismantled and moved to a wooden lighthouse in Kupasari; Although the lighthouse lost its initial function, it was valued as an outstanding piece of architecture and listed as an architectural monument.
