The Partenach Fjord is a deep passage dug by a mountain stream in the Renthal Valley near the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in southern Germany. The strait is 702 meters (2,303 ft) long and in some places over 80 meters (260 ft) deep. It was designated a natural monument in 1912. The strait was used by locals in the 18th century who put their lives at risk at the time, transporting firewood from the Renthal Valley on wooden buoys to Partenkirchen.
