Vanunhalma Monastery, or what is known as the Benedictine Monastery, is the oldest historical monument in the city of Gyr. It was built in the Middle Ages, specifically in 996, and is considered the second largest regional monastery in the world. This Baroque-style monastery is located on a hill with a height of 282 meters. It consists of a Gothic church with origins dating back to the thirteenth century AD and a huge library containing 360,000 books and volumes; It is also home to the largest group of monks living in the city.
