The Adam Mitskevich memorial was opened in Grodno in 1998, in front of the building of the Union of Poles, which began its construction, and also allocated the necessary funds for it. Although Adam Mickiewicz is not directly related to Grodno, the monument dedicated to him symbolizes the closeness of the cultures of the two Slavic peoples. This poet, who was born in Novogrudok, was of Belarusian origin, but at the same time went down in history as a classic of Polish literature, writing his most famous works in this language.
