Information about Palais d'Ahmed Bey
It is a historical palace in Constantine, Algeria. The palace was a major landmark during the selection of Constantine as the capital of Arab culture in 2015. The cornerstone of the construction of this palace was laid in 1825, and it was completed in 1835, two years before Constantine fell into French occupation. In Genoa, Ahmed Bey summoned the architect Chiavino, and two well-known artists, Al-Jabari and Al-Khattabi for architectural design. When the inauguration began in 1835-1836, Ahmed Bey resided in the palace when he became governor. But Ahmed's enjoyment of this wonderful place did not last long. Two years after his move, the French chased him, entered the palace into their headquarters, and the Algerian army was independent and set up its camp on independence. The palace consists of three wings and a garden, where orange trees and palm trees are planted. The pavilions are linked by the aisle, which has arches supported by 266 columns made of marble. There are also three courtyards and fountains made of marble. The ceilings are tiled with marble as well. There are 540 doors made of cedar wood, carved and engraved with various carvings and decorations. More than 2,000 square meters of palace walls were decorated with paintings depicting Ahmed Bey traveling to Alexandria, Tripoli, and Algeria, as well as 15 months of travel to Istanbul, Cairo, and Hejaz in 1818 and 1819, in addition to other trips before and after his reign. .
