The Oscar Frederick Church is a landmark of Gothenburg, as well as many other churches with a long history. It was designed by architect Helgo Zettervall, and opened in 1893. The church also got its name from King Oscar II. The church was renovated three times, in 1915, 1940 and 1974. The 1940's renovation took away from the side galleries, and motifs were decorated on arches and capitals. Also, during the last renovation in 1978, the minbar was returned to its original location (south side of the choir), and the old wall paintings and decorations were brought back to light.
